Renewing your TIE or NIE card: which appointment to book and what to bring to the fingerprinting

Card renewal has no appointment of its own: it is booked as «Toma de huellas (expedición de tarjeta) inicial, renovación, duplicado», the same appointment as a first TIE. It can only be done in the province where you live.

Before booking

  • Check that your file is «Resuelto favorable» on the sede electrónica and that the permit granted comes with a TIE.
  • The TIE must be requested within one month of the permit being granted.
  • No TIE is issued if the permit is valid for 6 months or less, or if the card would be valid for under 30 days.
  • The appointment is personal: one appointment does not cover several family members.

What to bring to the fingerprinting

  • The appointment confirmation.
  • Form EX-17, filled in and signed.
  • Your passport (or registration card or travel document), original and valid, issued within the last 10 years.
  • Proof of payment of fee form 790 code 012, fully printed (photocopies are not accepted).
  • One recent colour photo, 32 × 26 mm, plain white background.
  • A padrón certificate (max. 3 months old) if you changed address.
  • The decision granting the permit, if you have it, and your previous TIE (or the police report if it was lost).

If you cannot find an appointment

Search every police station in your province that offers this procedure, not only the nearest: slots free up throughout the day. We can also search for you and notify you by WhatsApp; you only pay if we get it.

Can I do the fingerprinting in another province?

No. The TIE can only be issued in your province of residence.
