Collecting your TIE: when to book, what to bring and who can collect it

After the fingerprinting, the TIE is collected with a separate appointment («Recogida de Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero») at the same Documentation Unit where it was issued. Before booking, check that your card has arrived.

How to know your card is ready

Your collection receipt shows a batch (lote) number. Book only when that number is equal to or lower than the batch shown for the office; otherwise the card is not there yet.

What to bring

  • The issue receipt you were given at the fingerprinting.
  • Your passport (or registration card or travel document), original and valid.
  • Your previous card, expired or not, or the original police report if it was lost or stolen.

Who can collect it

  • Only the holder: the fingerprint is checked on delivery.
  • Children under 6: no fingerprint check, so their legal representative or authorised person can attend without the child.
  • Children aged 6 and over: must attend with their legal representative, who proves the relationship (family book or birth certificate, legalised and translated if foreign).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can someone else collect my TIE?

No, except for children under 6. Collection is personal because the holder's fingerprint is checked.

Do I have to hand in my old card?

Yes, whether it has expired or is still valid. If it was lost, bring the original police report.

Can I collect my TIE at a different office?

The card is delivered at the Documentation Unit where it was issued; book the collection appointment at that office.
